Ahmedabad, Jul 26 () The Gujarat circle of India Post has decided to reach out to corporates and educational institutes to promote its 'My Stamp' initiative which aims at providing personalised postal stamp experience, Chief Postmaster General Ram Bharosa said here today.

"The initiative was launched around two years ago, but the response so far has been poor in Gujarat circle. We have decided to reach out to corporates, schools and colleges and spread awareness about it among the masses," he said at a press conference.

The initiative allows one to have his photograph clicked at a counter of a head post office and get it printed on a sheet of twelve postage stamps of Rs 5 denomination to give it a personal touch. It was launched around two years ago and is priced at Rs 300 per sheet.

"We are writing to educational institutions and corporate houses to embrace personalised postal stamp experience and our marketing team is meeting corporate heads. We are reaching out to the public to make it popular," he said, adding "It is aimed at bringing the masses closer to the postal experience."

Noting that Ahmedabad GPO has sold around 100 bottles of Gangajal (water from the Ganga river) since its launch on July 11, Bharosa said, "We have procured around 600 bottles of 200 ml and 500 ml of Gangajal. So far, around 100 such bottles have been sold."

India Post offers water of the Ganga river in bottles packed from its source at Gangotri and Rishikesh in Uttarakhand. The bottles are priced between Rs 15 and Rs 35.

Bharosa also said outsourced postal agents (OPA) scheme has been launched, wherein registered posts, speed posts, and parcels will be outsourced to postal agents which will provide logistic and linking arrangements such as collecting articles, booking and delivering it.

The postal department will also soon initiate a project to provide hand-held biometric devices to 1.3 lakh postmen to use network-connected hand-held terminal for postal delivery, he said. KA PD NP NSD
